Behind the Lathe: The Stories My Pens Tell

There’s something deeply satisfying about taking a raw blank—be it shimmering acrylic, a block of wood, or a slice of carbon fibre—and slowly revealing the pen hidden inside it.
Each pen I make at The Pen Guy has a story. Some are experiments that went right. Others are inspired by a memory, a conversation, or a customer’s passing comment. But all of them are made by hand, in my workshop, with care, patience, and a bit of stubbornness.
From Mistake to Masterpiece
Take the purple and bronze Galant pen, for example. That started as an afterthought—leftover resin from another project. I wasn’t expecting much, but as the swirl of violet, copper, and gold set in the mould, I could see something regal coming to life. It’s now one of my favourites, proving that sometimes the best results happen when you’re just having fun.
Engineering Meets Elegance
Then there’s the Velocity pen, featuring a carbon fibre body and chrome trim. That one was a nod to the sleek design of performance cars. Precision-cut, polished to a mirror finish—it’s got the look and feel of something built for speed. But it still writes like butter.
Built Like a Hammer (Literally)
And of course, there’s The Fixer—a novelty pen for those who love tools more than titles. With its hammer-shaped clip and hand-dented African Blackwood body, it’s part pen, part personality piece. It’s become a favourite gift for dads, DIYers, and anyone who’s ever shouted “pass me the 10mm” in frustration.
Why Handmade Matters
In a world where everything is mass-produced and identical, I think it’s nice to own something one-of-a-kind. When you buy one of my pens, you're not just getting a writing tool—you’re getting a slice of craftsmanship, a bit of story, and something that was made to last.
If you're looking for a pen that feels like yours, not one of thousands, you’re in the right place.
