Matthew and the Dragon

Matthew sought a dragon green,
The finest pen he'd ever seen.
He placed his order, keen and fast,
But sadly, that fair dragon had already passed.

Another hand had claimed the prize,
Before it vanished from our eyes.
Yet dragons, as the old tales tell,
Rarely travel alone for very long or well.

So in the workshop, care was taken,
A new green dragon soon awakened.
Its colours gleamed, its scales shone bright,
A worthy sibling born from light.

Not quite the same, and that's no sin,
This dragon carries strength within.
A little broader through its frame,

Yet every bit as proud in name.

Now Matthew holds a pen unique,
The kind collectors often seek.
For though the first had flown away,
A better tale was forged that day.

And should you write from dawn till night,
May your dragon guide each line just right.
For some things lost are not the end,
They simply make way for something better, my friend.
