The story behind the pen
This particular piece of Thuya Burr had been waiting patiently in my workshop for years. Tucked away at the bottom of my wood stockpile, wrapped in wax paper, it carried a handwritten note: “Too good to rush.” It was set aside until the right commission came along, one worthy of the wood’s exceptional quality, emphasising its rarity and the craftsmanship involved.
When Ian’s order arrived, I knew this was the moment. As soon as I unwrapped the blank and began turning it on the lathe, the workshop filled with the warm, spicy aroma Thuya Burr is famous for. As the grain emerged and caught the light, it became clear this pen wasn’t simply being made, it was being revealed, specifically for him.
