Absolutely — keeping the Imperial fountain/rollerball design, but changing the body material to this striking acrylic gives it a very different character. The deep black, electric blue and flashes of metallic gold/yellow really stand out against the ornate silver-toned fittings.

I think it deserves a name with a bit of regal drama.

The Imperial Tempest

Acrylic with a storm of colour running through it — and the Imperial kit makes it look every bit as grand as the name suggests.

What makes this pen special?

The Imperial Tempest combines classic styling with a thoroughly modern acrylic blank. Deep blacks swirl through vivid electric blue, with dramatic flashes of gold and yellow caught within the pattern. Every section reveals something slightly different, making this a pen that genuinely changes as you turn it in your hand.

The highly polished acrylic has a wonderful depth and gloss, allowing the colours to almost appear suspended beneath the surface.

Finished with the distinctive Imperial-style hardware, including its ornate engraved detailing, substantial cap and elegant clip, this is a fountain pen with plenty of presence.

And because I make each pen individually, no two will ever have exactly the same pattern.

Who is this pen for?

The Imperial Tempest is for someone who wants their pen to be noticed.

It's equally at home on a boardroom desk, beside a favourite notebook or tucked into a jacket pocket — and it makes a particularly impressive gift for anyone who appreciates beautifully crafted writing instruments.

For the fountain pen enthusiast, it offers the pleasure of a proper writing instrument combined with a completely individual acrylic body.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the exact pen I will receive?

Yes. This is a handmade, one-of-a-kind pen and the pen pictured is the actual pen you will receive.

The acrylic pattern is unique, so there will never be another one exactly like it.

Can the refill/nib be replaced?

Yes. The fountain pen uses a replaceable ink cartridge or converter system, while the rollerball version uses a replaceable rollerball refill.

Is the acrylic durable?

Yes. The acrylic is turned, shaped and polished specifically for pen making. It is designed to withstand normal everyday use while retaining its beautiful gloss.

Is this really handmade?

Absolutely. I start with a raw acrylic blank and do the rest myself — turning, shaping, sanding, polishing and assembling the pen.

There is a fair amount of work hidden inside something that ultimately looks like it simply ought to have appeared on the desk of a very important person.

Fountain pen or rollerball?

That's entirely up to you. The Imperial Tempest works beautifully as either. The fountain pen gives you the traditional writing experience, while the rollerball offers a smoother, more familiar writing style with the same handmade body.

I particularly like Imperial Tempest for this one. The blue looks almost like turbulent water, the black gives it depth, and those flashes of yellow/gold look like lightning running through the blank. It also sounds like a proper collection name, rather than simply describing the colours.
