The power went out halfway through the afternoon.
 
No warning. No gentle flicker,  just silence. The lathe slowed, coughed, and stopped dead, leaving the workshop suspended in half-finished motion. The smell of warm metal and resin hung in the air while the darkness settled in.
 
I tried restarting the machine. Nothing. The lathe was already temperamental, and without power, it might as well have been broken beyond repair. For a moment, it felt like the day was lost,  another reminder that handcrafting doesn’t always bend to schedules or plans.
 
But the workbench lamp still caught the light from the window. Enough to see. Enough to continue.
