What makes this pen special
Few pens can claim such a direct connection to a place. This unique Sovereign rollerball began life as a fir cone collected during a visit to the enchanting Castle Coch, the fairy-tale Victorian castle nestled in the woods north of Cardiff.
The cone was carefully dried, stabilised and preserved before being cast in crystal-clear resin, transforming a simple piece of Welsh woodland into a lasting work of art. Rich crimson reds mingle with deep midnight blues, while the preserved fir cone scales weave through the body like ancient branches frozen in time.
Each turn of the pen reveals new details hidden within the resin, ensuring that no two pens could ever be exactly alike.

Maker's Story
Sometimes inspiration arrives unexpectedly. During a visit to Castle Coch, one of Wales' most distinctive castles, I noticed several fallen fir cones beneath the surrounding trees. Rather than leave them behind, I brought a few home with an idea in mind.
After carefully drying and stabilising the cones, I cast them in resin to preserve their intricate natural structure forever. The resulting pen captures a small piece of that woodland setting and transforms it into something that can be held, admired and used every day.
Castle Coch Ember is more than a pen; it is a tangible memory of a remarkable place, preserved in resin and crafted by hand into a writing instrument that will last for generations.
