A flash of purple, inspired by nature.
Crafted from genuine Purpleheart, this striking handmade ballpoint pen showcases one of nature's most unusual timbers. Known for its vibrant purple colour, Purpleheart gradually develops a rich, deep tone as it ages, creating a writing instrument that becomes even more beautiful over time. Combined with the charming woodpecker click mechanism, this is a pen that's guaranteed to start conversations.
What makes this pen special?
Every Purple Perch pen is individually handmade in my Warwickshire workshop from carefully selected Purpleheart hardwood. The timber is polished to a silky smooth finish but deliberately left unsealed, allowing it to absorb the natural oils from your hand and develop a unique patina throughout its lifetime.
The beautifully detailed woodpecker isn't simply decorative. Press the bird and it smoothly extends the ballpoint refill, making the clip both practical and full of character.
No two pieces of Purpleheart are ever identical, meaning your pen is genuinely one of a kind.
Who is this pen for?
Whether you're buying a thoughtful gift for a bird lover, treating yourself to a distinctive everyday writing instrument, or adding something unusual to a pen collection, the Purple Perch is designed to be admired as much as it is used.
Why choose a ballpoint pen?
Ballpoint pens are reliable, convenient and ready to write whenever inspiration strikes. They produce clean, consistent lines on almost any paper, require very little maintenance, and the refill lasts for thousands of words before needing replacement.

Yes. The refill is easily replaced, ensuring your pen can be enjoyed for many years.
Maker's Story
Every pen I make starts as a carefully chosen piece of timber rather than a production line component. I turn, sand and polish each one by hand, allowing the natural beauty of the wood to speak for itself. My aim is simple: to create a pen you'll enjoy using every day and still be proud to own many years from now.
